It may sound cliché, but I really think that nature offers one of the best sources of inspiration for designers and artists. The flora, fauna and landscapes of nature offer a plethora of shapes and patterns that I find irresistible to emulate.

The transformation of this stole, from its humble beginning to its final metamorphosis, is quite amazing. The main body stole starts as ribbing, but once stitches are dropped (intentionally 
of course), they reveal a little lacy bubble that resembles a cocoon. To frame the cocoons, I incorporated a simple-to-work lace pattern edging with a slight resemblance to wings. The theme and detail is further carried out at each end via a pattern that I intentionally designed to abstractly represent of the wings of various insects.
